Results of the 2020 UEC European Track Championships
The 2020 UEC European Track Championships ended in Plovdiv (Bulgaria) last Sunday. The athletes of the Belarusian national team showed quite high results at these competitions, despite lack of races for a long period of time this season.
Two-time world champion in scratch, leader of the national team, racer of Minsk Cycling Club Yauheni Karaliok won a silver medal in the Olympic discipline omnium. Yauheni has repeatedly noted that despite his successful performances in scratch, he strives to show high results in the Olympic tempo types of track disciplines. This race proved that Yauheni is on the right track. In scratch, his crown discipline, Karaliok took the 8th place in the final standings.
A bright race in scratch was held by a young and promising racer of Minsk Cycling Club Hanna Tserakh, which allowed her to take the 2nd place. In the last meters, the eminent Italian racer Martina Fidanze literally snatched the gold from Hanna! In the individual pursuit, Hanna finished sixth.
The championship did not go without ambiguous referee decisions. In the men's elimination race, the racer of the national team of the Republic of Belarus, Raman Tsishkou, was literally "deprived" of a medal. Raman felt confident throughout the race and during it it was clear that Tsishkou had every chance of being on the podium. When only 4 riders remained in the race, among whom was a Belarusian, the judges determined that he had violated the rules of passing the “corridor” and removed him from the race.
Nevertheless, it can be unambiguously argued that such races performed by Raman Tsishkou demonstrate his high class and once again confirm his ability to fight for victory.
The following results were shown by Belarusian riders in other disciplines:
Yauheni Karaliok and Raman Tsishkou took the 5th place in madison.
Artsiom Zaitsau took the 8th place in keirin, in sprint he became the 13th.
Raman Ramanau finished 4th in the points race. Moreover, he was in the lead for a long time, and before the last finish he was the 3rd.
Ina Savenka finished 6th in the points race and 5th in the elimination race.
Mikhail Shemetau finished 6th in the individual pursuit at the European Championships in Plovdiv. The result is 4,18.362, Dzianis Mazur became the 9th (4,20.609).
Besides, in the men's team pursuit, the Belarusian racers (Shemetau, Karaliok, Mazur, Tsishkou) lost 5 seconds to the Swiss in the final for the 3rd place and took the 4th place.
We congratulate the guys with decent results and wish them further success and victories!
